Operations Update: In February 2025, the EPA terminated the grant funding for the Heartland Environmental Justice Center (HEJC). This resulted in a pause of all activities associated with the HEJC, effective immediately.
The Heartland Environmental Justice Center is a part of the Environmental Finance Center at Wichita State University (EFC WSU). The EFC is an applied research center that serves organizations and communities throughout EPA Region 7 (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and adjoining Indigenous Nations).
The EFC helps communities by providing training, technical assistance, and applied research. This support builds capacity for communities to address environmental issues and improve the quality of life for everyone.

Alternative Resources for Technical Assistance
HEJC and the university remain committed to the mission behind this work and will continue to explore other funding opportunities to re-engage communities across the heartland that environmental burdens have disproportionately impacted. In the meantime, we encourage you to explore our list of alternative resources and technical guidance available. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at heartlandej@wichita.edu.
